Maggie Smith is tempted back to TV by Poliakoff

Dame Maggie Smith will return to the BBC in a new Stephen Poliakoff film — her first British television role in seven years.

The film, Capturing Mary, is the second of a pair of Poliakoff films currently going into production for the corporation. The first is as yet untitled but will star Michael Gambon and Rupert Penry-Jones.

Smith has been famously shy of television drama, preferring to appear in a string of highly successful films.

Recently, she has played professor Minerva McGonagall in Hollywood's Harry Potter adaptations.

She was nominated for an Oscar for her performance as the crotchety Constance Trentham in Robert Altman's ensemble mystery drama Gosford Park, and partnered Dame Judi Dench in the wartime drama Ladies in Lavender.

Her only television role in recent years has been in the American made-for-TV movie My House in Umbria, and even that received a cinema release in the UK. Her last British television roles were in 1999, when she appeared as Betsey Trotwood in a BBC adaptation of David Copperfield and as Queen Alexandra in All the King's Men. The two new Poliakoff films, to be made by the independent production company Talkback Thames, are linked by a beautiful but empty English house, and by teenage Joe (played by Danny Lee Wynter), who takes care of it.
In the first, Michael Gambon plays the reclusive owner of the house. A successful politician, played by Rupert Penry-Jones of Spooks, carries on an affair at the mansion, opening Joe's eyes to a wider, less innocent world.

In the second film, set in the same house, Smith plays Mary, who was formerly a high-flying writer and critic. As she reflects on her past, she remembers the charming but evil Greville — played by the ubiquitous David Walliams — and the chaos that he wrought in her life.

"I am delighted to be reunited with Michael Gambon, Maggie Smith and Rupert Penry-Jones, whom I have been fortunate enough to work with before," said Poliakoff, who will write and direct both films. "It's very exciting to have such an exceptional cast." The BBC has commissioned both the films, which will be completed next year for transmission on BBC1 and BBC2, with the American network HBO. HBO also helped to fund BBC2's expensive epic, Rome.

Fox Announces Details of X-Men on Blu-ray Disc

Let's face it: Twentieth Century Fox has some great movies you'd want to see in high-def in its archive. Today the company's home entertainment division announced that its first salvo of Blu-ray Disc movies will include X-Men: The Last Stand. The studio is unabashed in noting its shrewd timing: It's offering the third installment in the X-Men trilogy in high-definition on November 14--three days before the Sony's Blu-ray Disc-enabled PlayStation 3 ships. Granted, it may not be Star Wars, but nonetheless X-Men will immediately rank as one of only a handful of current Blu-ray Disc releases that has immediate appeal to the PlayStation 3 crowd.
Most interesting to me, though, is how Fox appears to have paid a lot of attention to this film's release in high-def. According to the press release, X-Men: The Last Stand will have 100 percent HD content, for both the film and the bonus features. Fox says it authored the disc in BDMV; encoded the video using MPEG-4 AVC; and encoded the audio in 6.1 DTS ES HD Lossless Master Audio.
I've been intrigued by what Fox might have up its sleeve for X-Men after glimpsing hints of the future on a Blu-ray demo disc shown to me recent meetings. I look forward to evaluating the actual release and its extras in the context of the recent standard definition version.
While it's good news for the Blu-ray camp and for consumers to see Fox bring titles to the Blu-ray table, one negative is the price tag Fox has assigned to these discs: The suggested retail price of X-Men is $39.98. I'll be interested to see how low that goes when it's on Wal-mart and Best Buy shelves.
Would you pay that much for a movie? And what kind of interactivity and extras are you most looking forward to seeing on your high-def movie disc?

A little short ficlet by me... A/N: X-Men movieverse, a little sad....

Guilt. Overwhelming guilt. That was what she felt when she saw her sister die. Dieing slowly as the waters drown her in their embrace. She could have done something then. She controlled the elements. She could have summoned wind to keep her from drowning. But she didn’t. She was too shocked. Unable to react in time. She saw her father, silently battling the grief he held inside. She saw herself, holding back the tears that was threatening to fall. She felt her anger at the injustice of the world. They tried to comfort her, telling her that she would get over it in time. Time. Was of no consequence to her. She almost gave up hope then, that she would ever move on, when news of her survival came around. She was overjoyed then, that her sister had finally returned. But when she was awaken, she realized that she’s changed. She was no longer the warm person that she was at first. She was menacing. Her heart broke then. When the final battle came, she almost died. To see her sister angry was one thing. But to see her possessed by her own powers shook her to the core. When he killed her, she saw her eyes, filled with the peace death brings. And she heard her final words. “Live on, little sister. And goodbye.”
With a torn sob, she threw herself off the building where she had been standing, joining her sister, in death’s warm embrace.

MALIBU, Calif. --Former James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan and other celebrities gathered Sunday to protest a natural gas facility proposed for a site 14 miles off the Malibu coast.
"We have to use our voices and band together and stop this," said Oscar winner Halle Berry.
The gathering -- also attended by Cindy Crawford, Jane Seymour, Dick Van Dyke and Tea Leoni -- was intended to raise awareness about how the energy industry has invested billions to liquefy and ship natural gas across oceans.

There are five facilities proposed for California, with three along the Southern California coastline. One of the world's largest energy companies, Australian-based BHP Billiton, is seeking to build the terminal off the coast of Malibu and Oxnard. A decision is expected next year.
BHP officials say the terminals would provide a reliable source of low-polluting energy. Opponents, however, say the terminals would not meet clean air requirements and could be terrorist targets.

Brosnan, who hosted the protest, said his opposition to the terminals extends beyond the beach in his backyard. He plans to oppose other proposed terminals, including one in Long Beach and one in Port Hueneme.

Mark Massara, a lawyer and director of the Sierra Club's California Coastal Program, said the recent celebrity interest in the terminals has helped their cause tremendously.

"This is the greatest thing that has happened to our effort," he said. "We have struggled over the last three years."

Following a pancake breakfast, dozens of surfers, including actress Daryl Hannah on her pink board, paddled out to a sign bobbing in the water. The message to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who has the power to veto the proposal, had a picture of the proposed terminal with a red line through it and the words: "Terminate it!"

Blehx... I had a bad time today.... Due to yesterday. Funny how the past affects the future. Well, Yesterday, I, Minerva, and dearest Michelle were chatting on webcam... I don't know how Michelle got a webcam... So Minerva and Michelle were betting that I could not drink. Well, I know that Minerva could drink. During last christmas, she polished off 5 bottles of tequilla. 5 bottles... Then yesterday, Michelle proved that she could drink by drinking STRAIGHT from the XO GOLD bottle. And she didn't pass out.... Then it was my turn and Minerva was saying that I could not drink... So I drank 2 bottles of tequilla (acordding to Michelle). And passed out immediatly.

I woke up this morning with a terrific hangover. Shyt. And I had school today. Luckily lecture wasn't that important and I threw up in class... So I got to go home early...

Just a short little post on the last few days. Naomi lost her handphone. A OLD YELLOW MALE HORNY BASTARD stole it. At least, that's the theory. Wl is now messaging moi... AH!

I hate that ******* bitch. Ok. I am not supposed to use those words. But Mina used them yesterday. "She's such a bitch..." See? me, Mina, Arow, Daniel and Marilyn played STRIP POKER on Sat... at least that;s the main idea. But mum was there. So we played it with food. I got to eat cuttlefish with reaspberry jam. It tasted horrible.

After mum left, we plaued the real strip poker... I didn't lose a hand... yay me... Mina and Daniel lost the first and second rounds... Mina kept losing till she only had her underclothes on... HAHAHAHa.

Ok. This may be a very long/short post.

I finally finished my part of the loss of one. Now Michelle have to complete the next four chappies. I only did one... Michelle did the rest. YAY! Slack again. 5500 words now. And that's about the starting... Daniel came over this morning. We spent the whole day running around in the park. It was really nice. So many flowers, trees. Too bad this could not last. I have to go for my exams soon. I hope I can do well. Must train more. Marilyn can swim at least 5 seconds faster than me everytime. Must beat her record for 100 metres. Can you believe it? She actually managed to swim 100m in like 1.00 minutes... HATE IT> Going to put up radio blog soon. Collecting songs now. I am looking forward to X-Mas. Going to Singapore. Hopefully we could do something nice this year like check out pubs... Now for a through description of my day... Upon much emailing from Arow..

Woke up at 5 am today. Went out to run for about 10 km... (HAH! I bet you can't run for 2 km at all, Michelle)...
At about 7, started revising econs..... Just hoping to beat Mary in that... She's much better in chemistry...
Daniel came about 8 and me revised together till 9. he then said that he was tired and we went for a relaxing swim with another of his friends... We played Going under after that!! Daniel and his friends were the drummers, guitarist, what so ever. They asked me to sing... ARGH.
We didn't eat lunch at all... YAY.

Life is hard. I finally realised that. Totally hard on you. With deaths of many. I painted the star of David on my greek pot last week, together with the signs for boys and girls.

The Magen David (shield of David, or as it is more commonly known, the Star of David) is the symbol most commonly associated with Judaism today, but it is actually a relatively new Jewish symbol. It is supposed to represent the shape of King David's shield (or perhaps the emblem on it), but there is really no support for that claim in any early rabbinic literature. In fact, the symbol is so rare in early Jewish literature and artwork that art dealers suspect forgery if they find the symbol in early works.

Minerva Mcganagall silently put down her quill as she finishes the last flourish. She's sick of keeping it all inside. She's the headmistress after all. the 'ice queen' some call her. her eyes filled with tears as she thought of Albus again. Albus. The man she had secretly loved for over half a centuary, before even noticing that he loved her back. They got married when they adopted Harry, for the sake of keeping up appearences, they hid their marriage form every one else.
Minerva sighed again and got into bed, tears silently working their way down her cheeks.

Not so far away, infact, just outside Minerva's window, a white snowy owl, accompanied by a fiery red phoenix, weeped. For his wife, the person who should know that his alive. On silent wings, the owl flew away, with the phoenix, silently wondering if he should reveal his secret to his precious Tabby.

Disclaimer: I don’t own X-Men. I am just playing with them…
Summary: After X3, when Jean died. However, Charles returned. So there is this little talk between Xavier and Ororo of how things became they were and how precious is Jean to them.
A/N: I might be writing a little out of character here. This is my first fanfic…

Ororo looked at the pile of papers on her desk and sighed. Ever since the Professor died and she took over the school, she had mounds of work to do. Worse still, after the Alcatraz incident, Jean died and Logan has spent most of his time in god knows where. Ororo looked at the pictures on the wall behind her. There where so many of them. It was good then, when there where no power crazy mutant villains to worry about. She saw one that was vaguely familiar. Wondering what it is, she leaned forward to take a closer look.
//flashback//
“Jean! Stop that!”
“Stop what, Ororo?”
“Stop tickling me!”
Jean just laughed and continued to tickle her anyway. It was not until the Professor opened the door that they both stopped.
“That’s enough, you two. We have a visitor today.” The professor interrupted.
“Opps. Sorry.” Both of them stood up, leaning on one another.
//end of flashback.//
How could she forget that time. It was during the winter when she and Jean met Moira McTaggert. She was one of the Professor’s best friends.
But now its all gone. Jean and the Professor are both dead. Jean, the only person close to a sister had died. And she killed the Professor.
Suddenly, the door opened and Logan popped his head into the room.
“What do you want Logan?” She demanded.
“Sorry for interrupting like this darlin’ but there are two people on the porch.”
“So? Just leave them out there.” Ororo replied.
“But one of them, the guy, claims to be Chuck. Anyway, if you don’t want to meet them, don’t. I am letting them in.” Logan replied.
Ororo stood still, stunned. She could not believe it. Charles is back?

Ororo raced down the stairs, to the foyer, where Moira McTaggert stood with an unknown guy.

“Moira! How nice to see you! It have been ages since you came.” Moira laughed.
“Look at ya child, You’ve grown” Moira exclaimed, her Scottish accent noticeable.
//actually it have been about 15 years.// Ororo thought.
She heard a deep chuckle in her head.
// Charles? Is that you? //
//who else, dear child? //
// Where are you? //
The man standing beside Moira gave a deep chuckle.
“Are you him?” Ororo asked “You sure don’t look like him.”
“Of course he is Charles, dear child.” Moira replied.
“You must be mistaken, Moira. I saw him die that day.”
“I am Charles, Ororo. You should know that.” Charles replied.
“Prove it” Ororo countered.
“You dated Forge awhile back …” Charles replied.
Ororo’s eyes widened in shock.
“It’s him…”

Ororo rushed forward and hugged the man.
“Charles…Father… I missed you.”
The Professor and Logan’s eyes widen in shock. They have not seen this much display of affection from the usually cold weather witch.
“Welcome back Chuck.” Logan told Charles.
“Told ya people so. Now who wants pizza?” Moira’s voice cut through the sudden silence.
“Let’s go then.”

Two hours later

Ororo and Xavier were casually lounging in his room. Ororo turned to face the man whom she considers her father.
“Why didn’t you come back, Charles?” She asked, her eyes brimming with tears.
“I was gone for about 2 months, Ororo. When I entered the mind of this man, I could not walk or anything. It took me another 2 months to learn to walk.” Charles replied
“But why did you wait for almost a year to past. Why?!” Ororo cried.
“Because, my dear Ororo, I have to clear much important stuff first.”
Ororo looked down, shamefaced.
“Sorry…Dad.” She replied hesitantly.
“er…Ororo, why do you call him dad just now?” Logan popped his head into the room.
Ororo looked at Logan in surprise. “What?” she asked.
“I just asked why you called Chuck dad. It’s weird.” Logan replied.
“oh that…. I don’t know. It just came to me.”
“Never mind then. You two have a good chat. I will be going to bed now.” Logan then excused himself from the room

“Why Ororo, did you call me dad?” Xavier asked with a twinkle in his eyes.
Ororo blushed a deep red.
“Its ok you know. From what I recall, you have been calling me dad since I adopted you.”
Xavier replied.
Ororo eyes widened.
“I…you adopted me? When?”
“You didn’t know? I thought I told you. I adopted you when you are 5. After your parents died, you are left in an orphanage. Then, I adopted you. Don’t you remember?”
“So you ARE my dad after all.” Ororo laughed like a child.
Xavier interrupted her.
“Where’s Jean?” He asked.
Ororo’s eyes became hooded. “She’s…. dead.”

“But how?” Xavier asked, bewildered.
“Logan killed her. She was the Phoenix then.”
Xavier bowed his head. “I suppose that’s inevitable. How are you?”
“Fine.” Ororo lied.
“Don’t lie to me child. Tell me honestly.”
“I… miss her.” Ororo replied.
“I know. Me too.” Xavier replied, lowering his head a little.
A silence ensued.
“Do you still remember that summer when we first saw Eric?” Xavier asked, breaking the silence.
Ororo lifted her head. Of course, she remembered. That summer when it all changed.
//flashback//
Ororo was a small child of 5 then. Barely reaching up to Xavier’s waist. That summer was the summer of 1980. Ororo saw a tall man approaching her. She held on to Xavier’s hand tightly. That man was carrying a child with him. “Who is it, papa?” she asked, gripping his hand tightly. Xavier leaned down and whispered. “Don’t be afraid. Its my old friend, Eric.”
Eric Lensherr bended down and looked at Ororo.
“She’s young Charles.”
“Yes I know.” Charles replied. “She’s only 5 after all.”
Ororo didn’t like they way both men were ignoring her. She walked over to Xavier and tugged his hand. “Who is the person beside Eric, dad?” She asked.
Xavier looked the child standing beside Eric. “Who is she, Eric?” he asked.
“She’s Jean, my friend. I found her when her parents threw her out.” Eric replied.
Jean stirred in his arms.
“Where am I?”
//end flashback//
She could still remember that. Of course. It was then she met Jean. Jean. That sister she was so glad to have. They were the best of friends.
“I miss her Charles. I miss her.” Ororo threw herself into Xavier’s arms and sobbed.
“Me too. Ororo, me too.” Xavier replied, smoothing down Ororo’s hair, wishing that she were a child again. So he could just reassure her that everything was okay and it’s all a bad dream.
Both of them lay in each other’s arms and slept through the night. Ororo, for once, did not have any nightmares.

Damn it Damn it! Stupid faraday won house cup. She hate it. Michelle thinks Fibo REALLY deserves to win that cheering competition. They are Really Good. Chere hates Faraday. well i feel that this cure, is totally useless. as it takes away who you really are and changes you. There is totally nothing to cure at all. NOTHING. by thaking this 'cure', you would be juz admitting tht you are not the same as the others. that you don't belong with them. that you need to take something, just to be part of them.
